Founder of the defunct UT Bank, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for what he describes as an extraordinary display of humility and humanity, noting that such traits are rare among political leaders.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, Mr Amoabeng reflected on his long-standing friendship with the President, which began during Mr Mahama’s time as Vice President.
He explained that their connection initially developed through First Lady Lordina Mahama, with whom he already shared a close relationship.
Mr Amoabeng recounted that their interactions became less frequent after UT evolved into a fully fledged bank around 2009–2010, a period he described as particularly demanding for him professionally.
Despite this, he maintained that President Mahama’s character has remained consistent and unaffected by higher office.
He praised the President as “down-to-earth, humane and extremely humble,” adding that Mr Mahama’s ability to engage comfortably with people from all backgrounds is a quality Ghanaians should value.
Reflecting on their earlier years of friendship, the retired military officer noted: “We shared moments together — we had drinks, we ate, and we talked freely when he was Vice President. Even today, he interacts with everyone, sometimes so freely that he seems unaware of the power he holds. That humility is a rare asset for this country.”
