As part of its effort to engage industry and secure opportunities for students, the KNUST Career Services Centre hosted SEO Africa at an information session to interact with students and equip them with the skills needed for the job market.

The session provided resource persons from SEO Africa the opportunity to engage students through presentations and question-and-answer sessions.

Mrs. Selina Angmor, Director of the Career Services Centre, reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to preparing students for a seamless transition into industry.

She encouraged students to take their studies seriously while actively engaging in training programs that enhance their professional and personal development.

“Excelling academically opens you up to exceptional opportunities, but employers are also looking for essential skills beyond the classroom,” she said.

Professor James Osei Mensah, Hall Master, KNUST Owned Hostels (KOHs), representing the Director of Student Affairs, emphasized the need for students to go beyond academic excellence and develop skills that make them dynamic and well-rounded.

“For us as a directorate, we believe university education is not just about academic merit. We are in a competitive environment, so students should not focus solely on obtaining certificates but rather strive to become proactive, dynamic, and adaptable individuals capable of thriving in any setting,” he stated.

Commending both the Career Services Centre and SEO Africa for organizing the session, he underscored the importance of being a value-added graduate.
He encouraged students to actively participate, network, and make the most of the learning experience.

“To stand out, you must be more than just an academic graduate. That is why we appreciate this initiative, and as a directorate, we fully support it,” he added.

Ms. Joycelyn Ansu Gyeabour, Programs Manager at SEO Africa urged them to leave their comfort zones and take risks, stating that these experiences sharpen their analytical and critical thinking skills and prepare them for leadership roles in today’s competitive job market.

“Your tertiary education journey is a journey of knowing yourself and mastering yourself. The skills you are learning will give you insight into who you are going to become when you leave school,” she revealed.

This information session positioned students for opportunities to work with world-leading institutions such as Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Genser Energy.
