A member of the Bawumia Campaign communications team has rubbished the various allegations and claims made by Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong ahead of the NPP’s Presidential Primaries.

According to Ellen Ama Daaku, these allegations made against the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia are baseless and absurd.

Speaking on Newsfile on JoyNews, Ellen Ama Daaku explained that the claims of vote-buying and corruption made by the MP were earlier ignored because they did not have any effect on the Vice President’s campaign.

“Some of us find the allegations of the attempt to bribe him as absurd. How can you tell us that they attempted to bribe you with $800 million? Even assuming we are sharing the $800 million among our delegates, each one will get about $3500, so why will we carry that money and give it to you?

“Ghana is at the IMF. We are trying to get the IMF to help us sort out our economy and with each tranche, we are getting $600 million and you think Dr. Bawumia has $800 million sitting somewhere to give to somebody? Some of the accusations have been quite absurd so we did not see it fit to focus on that.”

This assertion follows numerous allegations made by the Assin Central MP during his campaign tour.

NPP desperate to avoid defeat in Ablekuma North re-run – Omane Boamah

While addressing some businessmen at True Vine Hotel in Kumasi on Saturday 31st September 2023, the outspoken politician accused members of the NPP of looting money as “if there’s no tomorrow.”

The MP also alleged that the government was not thinking about the economic growth of the country but rather focusing on looting the state to become rich overnight.

“The ruling party which won the election 2016 with about 1 million votes with the support of the business community is looting the country as if there’s no tomorrow.

“They steal Ghana’s money and deposit it abroad. I will put my life on the line to save this country from this looting brigade,” he assured.

Again, he had alleged that members of the government had offered him money to withdraw from the NPP’s presidential primaries.

But reacting to this, Madam Ellen Ama Daaku said with Kennedy Agyapong being part of the ruling government, such allegations and utterances also affect him and not just the NPP.

“His allegations have hurt his own campaign. Bawumia’s campaign has not been bothered at all, and neither has it been hurt.

“He is still a board member of Ghana Gas, I haven’t heard that he has resigned yet. His wife is still a board member of the Ghana Shippers Authority, I haven’t heard that she has resigned yet.

“So if you are accusing such a government which you are a part of of stealing, then I believe you are part of those stealing and stashing money abroad.

“I am not part, I haven’t stolen any money. Dr. Bawumia is not part, he hasn’t stolen any money so if he is making such an accusation then it is an accusation on himself.”

Meanwhile, a total of 203,439 delegates are expected to partake in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP), presidential elections today.

The election which will elect a flagbearer to represent the party in the 2024 general elections will take place in the various constituencies across all 16 regions of the country.

The race is between the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, MP for Assin Central Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Agric Minister, Dr Owusu Akoto Afriyie, and former MP for Mampong Francis Addai-Nimoh.
