Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed profound sorrow over the fire outbreak that has left several shops destroyed in Adum, the bustling Central Business District of the Ashanti Regional capital, Kumasi.

The fire incident, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, March 21, destroyed several shops and properties, leaving many traders counting their losses.

Mr Agyapong’s heartfelt condolences go out to the hardworking traders and their families who have lost their livelihoods in this heartbreaking incident.

In a statement released on Tuesday, March 25, Mr Agyapong conveyed his deep empathy for the affected individuals, emphasising the pain and frustration that come with such devastating setbacks.

“At a time when people are striving to rebuild their businesses, such a setback is truly heartbreaking,” he said. “You are not alone; we stand together as one nation.”

Drawing from his personal experiences as a businessman, Mr Agyapong acknowledged the tremendous effort required to establish a business.

“The long hours, the sacrifices, and the hopes for a better future,” he remarked,

Mr Agyapong further reflected on the profound loss suffered by those whose businesses were destroyed in the blaze.

“To see it all taken away in an instant is painful beyond words. I feel your pain and share in your frustration.”

The fire, which has sparked widespread concern, has highlighted the recurring issue of market fires in Ghana. Mr Agyapong called for urgent action to address the issue, urging the Ghana National Fire Service, the Police, and all relevant state agencies to collaborate in finding lasting solutions.

“Market fires have become too frequent in our country,” he said, stressing the need for safer markets, improved emergency access, and more reliable fire prevention systems. “Protecting our traders means protecting Ghana’s future.”

Although Mr Agyapong is currently out of the country, he assured the public that he had dispatched a team to the affected area to assess the situation and provide immediate support.

Upon his return, he vowed to personally visit the market to meet with the victims and traders, expressing his commitment to finding a way forward.

He also sent words of encouragement to the resilient people of Kejetia, Adum, Dr Mensah, and Roman Hill, urging them not to lose hope.

“Ghana is strong because of its people, and together, we will rebuild. Let us unite, support one another, and work to prevent such tragedies in the future,” he added.

Mr Agyapong offered his thoughts and prayers to the victims of the fire.

“May the Almighty strengthen and comfort our mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters during these trying times. God bless our homeland, Ghana,” he concluded.
