Government spokesperson on governance and security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, is confident that flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong, will not part ways with the New Patriotic Party if he loses the primaries.

Unlike Alan Kyerematen, he said Mr. Agyapong will support Dr. Bawumia for the party to win in 2024.

Speaking on Alan’s resignation from the party on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning, the government spokesperson on governance asserted that the Assin North MP is a stalwart of the NPP, hence his confidence that Mr Agyapong will never leave the party.

“Should Dr Mahamudu Bawumia become the flagbearer of the NPP, I believe that my senior Kennedy Agyapong will support him. I believe this very well because Kennedy Agyapong is a proper NPP man. I don’t see that he would leave the party,” he said.

Mr. Boakye Danquah is also sure that Mr Agyapong will be content with the results from the party’s presidential primaries in November, even if he loses.

The NPP presidential race is now being contested among five personalities, namely, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Ken Ohene Agyapong, Francis Addai Nimoh, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The government spokesperson on security said all the contenders are capable of leading the party into the general elections based on their contributions to the party.

However, he has urged all competitors to support whoever is elected by the delegates as the party’s presidential candidate, even if they lose.

“When the delegates make the decision and you don’t become the winning candidate, you should thank the delegates for voting for you to lose honourably and support whoever wins the election,” he entreated all aspirants.

Nonetheless, Mr Boakye Danquah is confident that Dr Bawumia will emerge as the NPP’s flagbearer following his massive win during the national super delegates’ conference.

In the meantime, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set November 4, 2023, as the date for its presidential primary to select a flagbearer for the general elections in 2024.

In recent times, Mr Kennedy Agyapong has made some comments to suggest that he does not consider Dr Bawumia as a viable for the NPP going into the 2024 elections.

Also, his outburst during the NPP’s super delegates conference where he threatened a showdown with the president, Nana Akufo-Addo, has been interpreted to mean that he’s not in support of the Vice President – who many believe he’s the establishment candidate.
