The “Justice and Repair” initiative by the Africa Translational Justice Legacy Fund (ATJLF) is making significant strides in advocating for racial healing and reparatory justice. This initiative focuses on addressing both contemporary and historical injustices faced by Africans and the Global African diaspora.
Akwasi Awuah Ababio, the Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President, underscored the importance of advocacy and global action in rectifying these injustices. He highlighted the government’s recognition of the diaspora as a vital asset and its intention to harness this potential for national development
The initiative aims to bridge the gap between Africans and the Global African diaspora, fostering a unified advocacy for racial and reparatory justice. As an intermediary funder, the ATJLF builds connections between the African continent and the diaspora, supporting grant-making and advocacy efforts.
The recent high-level consultation, convened by the African-American Institution based in the US, brought together notable stakeholders. These included Maya Sahil-Fadel, Former Commissioner and Special Rapporteur on Refugees, Asylum Seekers, Migrants, and Dr. Ahmed Zanya Bugre, Senior Coordinator for Reparatory Justice. Their discussions focused on mobilizing a global reparations and racial healing movement, highlighting the critical need for concerted efforts in addressing racial injustices and promoting healing.
