Some listeners of the Joy FM have shared their years of experience with the station, as part of the Joy FM Loyal Listener Promo.

The listeners who were requested to tell how Joy FM has impacted their lives, mention in their entries, how long they have been listening to Joy FM, where they listen from as well as their favourite programmes, presenters, projects and events.

Winners of the promo will be taken on an all-expense paid trip to Dubai, weekend stays at Maaha Beach Resort, weekend stays and family time vouchers at Labadi Beach Hotel and some really good treats, also from the TcheTche Hotel in Accra.

Below are write-ups sifted from a barrage of entries received from listeners. These five out of 10 finalists were randomly picked on Drive Time with Lexis Bill on Monday, November 20, 2023.

Joseph Pertey: I’ve been listening to Joy FM since the days of Kojo Oppong Nkrumah (Joy SMS Host) and Atto Kwamena Dadzie (Newspaper Review Segment). That’s about 10 years ago.

I love Joy FM because you guys are very bold, confident, eloquent and exciting. You make radio very exciting and fun. Your programmes are very educative, informative and very entertaining. I like every programme of Joy FM but my favourite ones are: Joy Super Morning Show – I just love the way you guys set the agenda on the Joy Super Morning Show.

The topical issues that you discussed are very helpful and educative. Also, News File with Sampson, Home Affairs with Edem Knight-Tay.

Your news stories have always been accurate and informative but too short. Lol. Your news stories, humanitarian stories and documentaries make very huge impact on individuals and communities.

Drive Time with Lexis Bill, Doreen’s programme at 10 am on week days, Springboard with Rev. Albert Ocran, and Living Word with Rev. Dr. Mensa Otabil.

Your campaigns for assistance for individuals and institutions in need of one form of assistance or the other, yield exciting, and heartwarming results.

Thank you Joy FM for always giving us very excitingly compelling content
JOY FM, you are simply the Best!!! #ilovejoyfm

Nene Nyumutei: I started listening to Joy FM from its inception in 1995. I was in SSS 3 at Accra Academy by then, and I remember how we used to jam to selections from presenters like Tommy Annan Forson, Doreen Andoh, Larry Adjetey, etc. Being the first private FM station at the time, it came with something different. We used to listen to GAR FM, they would close by 10 am and come back in the afternoon.

So when Joy FM was an all-day radio station, I must say I got addicted to it. After secondary school through tertiary, Joy FM was my source of entertainment and information. People like Kwaku Sakyi Addo made me grow interested in national issues and politics with the Newsfile programme. During my National Services days in Ahwiam – Old Ningo, Joy FM was my companion.

Throughout my adult life, Joy FM has always been part of me. You have evolved throughout the years with enhanced content and grown bigger and better. Your religious programs have also shaped my life in a great way. From Owusu Ansah all the way to the current PKF and Pastor Ato have all been very impactful in my life. When it comes to my marital home, Joy FM has always been there with Home Affairs. A lot of issues have happened in my marriage but I always take counsel from the programme.

I had the chance to travel out of Ghana and the only way I could get close to home was to listen to Joy FM online. You have always been the rallying point when it comes to national issues and that is why I have never changed my dial from 99.7 FM since I bought my first radio set till now. #ilovejoyfm

Cynthia Tettey: Dear Joy FM,  to say I love you may be an understatement, because sometimes love comes and goes. I will not bore you by going through your programme lineups. We know much, if not all. I love Joy FM because the good counsel of all the invited guests on Edem’s ‘Home Affairs’ every Saturday morning at 6.30 am saved my marriage in 2016.

I nearly gave up, trust me. Ask her if she remembers a lady who won 2 boxes of plates from Haiflow promotion and could not pick them up? That’s me ooo. When Sammy Forson continues afterwards with his 2 musketeers, better drop your worries. You will surely laugh. As for Lexis’s ‘Drive Time’, please don’t go there ooo. Why do you think we got the 2022 CIMG Radio programme of the Year award?

Drive Time is like a Ga woman’s soup, which has all kinds of meat and fish and a variety of spices. Whether young or old, sad or happy, well or sick, poor or rich, indebted or invested, man or woman, just make sometime to learn, laugh, cry sometimes because of very touching issue – like a man who wanted to commit suicide and Lexis had to step out and intervene. Listen to ‘Drive Time’ for just one year, and you will come to terms with real-life issues and learn lessons from them. My regards to the morning man, Kojo, and also Mamavi and Winston, I greet you all. Continue the positive arguments sometimes. It enriches our listening. Kofi Hayford, Daniel Koranteng, and Saminiwaa, your good beefs and fights with Lexis make it real. God bless you all. Regards to Doreen Andoh, Animwaa Anim Addo, George Qyaye, Uncle Ebo White, Uncle Ken, Evans Mensah, and Emefa Appawu. Keep up the good work. Rev. Ransford Abbosey.

Virtual university with the Ocrans, Fiifi Folson, how I miss George Addo Jnr with his “kkkkk Kaayyaaaa” as well as Daniel Dadzie. To all others, especially those who are in the background, making sure we are joyous in what we listen to, we love you bebreeeee.

If you want joy in your life, listen to Joy Fm, always. Radio di33, enoaaa ni Joyyyyyy. #ILoveJoyFM

Justice Adu: I am simply addicted to Joy FM just as I am addicted to my coffee. I have been listening to Joy FM since its inception. Throughout the day, my dial is locked on 99.7 FM. From the morning show with critical discussions of social, economic and political issues by Kojo Yakson, Mamavi, and Winston.

Then comes the Queen of Airwaves, Doreen! I don’t miss Sammy Forson with his cool and soothing music. Then we move to the yoyo city with Lexis Bill for the late afternoon drive. Lexis bill is one of my favourites. He has a way of making you laugh even on your bad days. 5.30pm comes with top story all the way till 6pm when the major news analysis takes place with grilling questions by Evans Mensah.

I don’t miss Sammy Forson and his two guys, Langabel and Rueben. They make us laugh our intestines out. Sunday comes with the morning praise and followed up by Country music by Iggy. The list is endless. Almost all are my favourites, especially the morning show and that of Lexis Bill. You simply can’t miss any of the shows. #ILoveJoyFm

Naana: Tuning in to Joy FM has been a generational thing in my family. I have been listening to the station for the past 25 years, that’s when I was only 10 years old. My mum’s radio was always tuned to Joy FM. She never missed shows hosted by Doreen Andoh, Gabby Adjeteh, Bola Ray and the king of Country Music Tommy Annan Forson. I have always loved the shows and still do.

No one in my home dare changes the station as my husband and children know Joy FM is the only station we can listen to. From the captivating Super Morning show with Kojo Yankson’s Fante and perfect English pronunciations ( Say it right) to the Cosmopolitan Mix with the Queen of the airwaves, Doreen Andoh, to the soothing music from Sammy Forson’s Ignition and to the infectious happiness thrown by the Award winning Lexis Bill’s Drive time on Joy.

It has never been a dull moment with Joy every day of my life. And you know what? My children also love Joy. They sing almost all the jingles and never miss the Super morning show’s Nestle moment with Naa Adjeleh Sowah which is the “Alarm clock” for leaving the house for school.

They always say “Naa Adjele Sowah is on, it’s 7:30, we’ve got to move”. Oooooh I love Joy and I always will. #ilovejoyfm
