Johnnie Walker, the world’s number one Scotch whisky, has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to environmental sustainability in Ghana with a third consecutive tree-planting visit to the Chipa Forest Reserve.

This year’s visit carries even deeper meaning as it also marks Guinness Ghana’s 65th anniversary.  The brand has announced a bold new target to plant 6,500 trees in 2025 with each representing the progress, purpose, and commitment of sustainable business in Ghana.

Since 2023, the reforestation effort has seen over 2,000 trees planted across the reserve, in collaboration with the Forestry Commission of Ghana. Species like Mahogany, Acacia, and Rain Trees are selected for their ecological value, helping restore biodiversity and soil health in one of the country’s critical forest zones. This initiative forms part of Guinness Ghana’s broader sustainability agenda, Society 2030: Spirit of Progress.

This year, the partnership takes on additional significance under the Forestry Commission’s national theme, “Tree for Life.” For Johnnie Walker and Guinness Ghana, this aligns perfectly with their belief that every step toward progress must also protect and sustain the future. The theme reinforces the purpose behind the initiative, not just planting trees, but nurturing ecosystems that support life and livelihoods over generations.

What makes the initiative stand out is its continuous care model. Since inception, the Johnnie Walker team has returned annually to monitor the health of the trees, replacing any that did not survive due to natural causes such as fire or drought. This approach ensures the long-term success of the forest’s restoration and demonstrates a deep commitment beyond symbolic planting.

Felicite Nson, Managing Director at Guinness Ghana, remarked: “Environmental sustainability and preservation require the collective effort of all stakeholders. We’re proud of the bold steps we have taken to demonstrate and reinforce our contribution to be sustainable by design through the reduction of carbon emissions, and I urge everyone from businesses to individuals to take an active role in protecting our environment. The future of our communities and planet depends on it”

Estella Muzito, Marketing & Innovations Director at Guinness Ghana, added:

“Johnnie Walker’s decision to ‘step out of the box’ goes beyond packaging, it’s a call to walk with purpose. For us, stepping out of the box means going beyond traditional brand activity and doing work that genuinely improves lives and landscapes. We understand how much sustainability matters to our consumers, and we’re committed to making a meaningful impact through real action. From reducing waste to restoring forests, we’re walking the talk.”

This year’s visit to the Chipa Forest is both a celebration of progress and a reflection of Guinness Ghana’s 65-year journey. It stands as a testament to Johnnie Walker’s enduring philosophy, Keep Walking. With every tree planted and every seedling nurtured, Johnnie Walker and Guinness Ghana continue to champion the path toward a greener, more sustainable Ghana one step, and one tree, at a time.
