John Boadu pays courtesy call on former President Kufuor, seeks guidance on NPP revival

Aspiring National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Adwenkesie John Boadu, has paid a courtesy call on former President John Agyekum Kufuor as part of his ongoing consultations with leading statesmen of the party.

During the interaction, former President Kufuor urged the leadership of the NPP to make deliberate and sustained efforts to rebuild strong relationships with the party’s traditional support bases. He noted that the party’s current challenges, reflected in its poor electoral fortunes, could largely be attributed to mistrust and a growing disconnect between the NPP and key stakeholder groups.

According to him, professional bodies, civil society organisations, the business community, traders, religious groups, women and the youth—who have historically formed the backbone of the party’s support—must be deliberately re-engaged and made to feel that their contributions are valued within the party’s decision-making structures.

“Rebuilding trust with these groups requires humility, discipline and effective communication,” he stressed, adding that the NPP’s core values of democracy, development and inclusiveness must be clearly reflected in its internal operations and public engagements.

The former President also suggested the need for the NPP to hold a massive rally in Greater Accra, given its unique demography and cosmopolitan population, to demonstrate remorse over excesses during the past NPP administration.

John Boadu pays courtesy call on former President Kufuor, seeks guidance on NPP revival

John Boadu, on his part, expressed profound gratitude to former President Kufuor for his guidance and counsel.

He said his aspiration to lead the party as National Chairman is anchored on unity, reconciliation and grassroots empowerment, with the ultimate goal of repositioning the NPP for electoral victory.

He further assured the former President of his commitment to fostering unity and cooperation within the party, strengthening its structures at all levels and restoring public confidence in the NPP.

The courtesy call forms part of John Boadu’s broader engagements with past and present leaders of the party as he seeks to build consensus and present a clear vision for the NPP’s reorganisation.

He was accompanied by Nii Ayitey Boafo, a former Presidential Staffer under President Kufuor; Madam Talata Rita Asobayere, NPP Vice Chairperson and member of the Presidential Elections Committee; Fuseini Abanga, an aspiring National Youth Organiser; and other members of his campaign team.
