The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has called for intensified efforts toward achieving gender equality, emphasising that while progress has been made, there is still much work to be done.

In a press statement issued to mark the International Women’s Day, Madam Mensa congratulated all female staff of the Commission and commended their dedication, resilience, and professionalism.

She highlighted their critical role in ensuring the peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral outcomes witnessed during Ghana’s December 7 general elections.

“Your hard work and dedication to duty contributed to the peaceful, credible, and transparent electoral outcomes we witnessed as a country on the 7th of December, 2024,” she said.

Madam Mensa also acknowledged the strides Ghana has made toward gender equality and paid tribute to the women who have paved the way for future generations.

However, she noted that many barriers still hinder the full participation of women and girls in society.

Referencing this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Accelerating Action: A Call for Gender Equality,” she urged stakeholders to redouble their efforts to create a world where women and girls have equal opportunities and representation.

“Let’s come together to accelerate action and join forces to create a more just and equitable society for all,” she urged.

Additionally, she encouraged young women and girls to remain determined and confident, stressing that their strength, courage, and resilience continue to inspire many.

She further honoured women who have contributed to the Commission’s success over the past three decades, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to gender equality.

“Congratulations to all the women who have made a difference in the Electoral Commission of Ghana over the last three decades. We honor you today and look forward to continuing the fight for gender equality together,” she said.
