Nana Yaa Jantuah

Presidential staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah has rejected proposals to extend Ghana’s presidential term limit.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, she insisted that good governance depends on proper planning, not additional years in office. She pointed out that even the United States, often regarded as a model of democracy, maintains a four-year presidential term.

“I don’t agree with extending the presidential term. Even America, the doyen of democracy, has a four-year term. If a president is not performing, do we have to endure it for seven years?” she questioned.

Nana Yaa Jantuah added that the focus should be on strengthening systems, adopting best practices, and introducing structures such as spokespersons and shadow ministers with expertise to improve governance.

“It doesn’t take seven years for someone’s mindset to change. We need systems that will help us, not extending presidential terms. It’s not a matter of years, it’s a matter of plan,” she emphasised.
