Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has claimed that he was the primary target of the chaos that erupted during the ministerial vetting in Parliament.

Speaking before the special committee set up to probe the disturbances, Mr Ablakwa recounted how tensions escalated as soon as he entered the vetting room.

“What I saw was a degeneration into violence, destruction of property. As soon as I entered, I was greeted with hostilities. It was clear to me that I was the target. They did not want to have me vetted that day,” he stated on Friday, February 7, 2025.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa suggested that the sequence of vetting was manipulated to delay or prevent his appearance before the committee. He pointed out that other nominees, such as Joseph Bukari Nikpe, who was originally scheduled after him, were instead vetted ahead of him without any issues.

“If you look at the schedule advertised and published, the media had copies. You had some of the persons here who were even taken ahead of me. For example, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe. He was supposed to come after me, but they had no difficulty bringing him ahead of my vetting,” he explained.

He further noted that Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the nominee for the Health Ministry, was called in unexpectedly, even though his original vetting date was January 31.

“Nobody gave me any information. Even Hon. Akandoh, who was to be sworn in before me, has just confirmed that he was supposed to appear the next day. But he was suddenly called to come ahead,” Mr Ablakwa stressed.
