Former Tamale Central MP, Inusah Fuseini, has shed light on why Kennedy Agyapong is rapidly gaining popularity among the grassroots in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries.
Speaking on Prime Morning, Mr. Fuseini argued that Kennedy Agyapong’s political brand is rooted in his long-standing image as an “outsider” within the NPP.
He recalled that during the last elections, while Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was presented as the institutional candidate, Kennedy positioned himself as a rebel challenging the establishment.
According to Mr. Fuseini, this defiance has fueled perceptions that Kennedy Agyapong is detached from the governing establishment and therefore represents a “fresh” alternative.
Unlike many party leaders, Kennedy never served in government, and his open criticism of NPP leadership has further strengthened his appeal as a candidate who stands apart.
“It appears to me there is a fire in the belly of Kennedy,” Mr. Fuseini added.
“He really wants the presidency. Whatever he is coming to the presidency to do is not very clear yet, but his disposition is convincing people that he is the kind of leader the party needs.”

Mr. Fuseini said Kennedy’s popularity is rooted in his outsider image within the party.
He explained that during the last elections, Dr. Bawumia was seen as the establishment candidate, while Kennedy stood out as a rebel who openly defied party leadership.
“Kennedy is maintaining a run. The run started in the last elections when Dr. Mahamudu was the institutional candidate for the NPP. Kennedy was almost like a rebel, and he had rebelled against the establishment,” he said.
