Interior Minister confirms arrest over fake security service recruitment scheme

Interior Minister, Muntaka Mubarak, has announced the arrest of a suspect accused of fraudulently selling recruitment slots into Ghana’s security services, as authorities intensify efforts to sanitise the recruitment process.

The minister disclosed this during a visit to selected police recruitment screening centres in Accra on Monday, January 12, where he inspected ongoing exercises and interacted with applicants.

He stressed that recruitment into the security services would be conducted strictly on merit, without favouritism or illicit payments.

Mr Muntaka warned that practices where individuals bypass official procedures through middlemen or online scams would no longer be tolerated under the current administration.

“That old practice where people sit comfortably at home and avoid the proper process is over. Under the leadership of President John Mahama, such conduct will not be accepted,” he stated.

He further cautioned applicants against falling victim to fraudsters operating online, revealing that one suspect had already been apprehended.

“Those deceiving people on social media should be very careful. Over the weekend, we arrested one person, and he is currently in police custody. We are watching with an eagle eye,” the minister added.

Meanwhile, in the Savannah Region, recruitment screening is underway at Damongo Senior High School, where 238 graduate applicants are scheduled to be screened on the first day.

The exercise includes document verification and physical assessment, as part of efforts to ensure a transparent and credible selection process nationwide.
