Interior Minister commissions 4 new patrol boats for Marine Police to boost maritime security

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has commissioned four new patrol boats for the Marine Police Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Tema, as part of efforts to strengthen maritime security and safeguard national resources.

The ceremony marks a major step in the government’s agenda to modernise Ghana’s security architecture through innovation, inclusivity, and improved operational capacity.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister emphasised the critical role of the blue economy in Ghana’s long-term development plans, noting its potential to drive sustainable economic growth, create jobs, and reduce poverty.

“The Ghana Marine Police Unit plays a crucial role in maintaining law and order within our maritime domain, preventing piracy, and protecting our marine resources.

“These new patrol boats will significantly boost the unit’s operational capacity, allowing them to patrol our waters effectively, respond swiftly to emergencies, and curb maritime crimes,” he stated.

The Minister noted that the boats will support surveillance, routine patrols, rescue operations, and rapid response to distress calls.

Mr Muntaka reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring national security, assuring the public that the Ministry of the Interior will continue to invest in initiatives that keep citizens safe.
