Godfred Yeboah Dame, former Attorney General and counsel for suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has vigorously defended her character, describing her as a woman of unimpeachable integrity who is being unjustly targeted.
Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV on Thursday, 22 May, Mr Dame dismissed allegations of any wrongdoing against the Chief Justice.
He emphasised that integrity has always been the defining feature of Gertrude Torkornoo’s career. “If there is anything this Chief Justice has stood for, it is her integrity,” Mr Dame stated.
He expressed bewilderment at the attempts to tarnish her reputation, noting that those familiar with her record would attest to her steadfastness in upholding ethical standards.
The Chief Justice currently finds herself at the centre of a constitutional process that may result in her removal from office.
This follows a prima facie finding by the President and the Council of State that has led to the establishment of a presidential committee tasked with investigating petitions against her.
In response, Gertrude Torkornoo has filed a motion before the Supreme Court seeking an interlocutory injunction to suspend the committee’s proceedings.
Additionally, she has requested that two Supreme Court justices be barred from participating in the inquiry, citing concerns over impartiality and fairness.
