Minister of Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, has reiterated the resolve of the government to restore the confidence of the citizenry by directly impacting their lives through tangible and credible policies and programmes, stating that information is lifeblood of democracy.

She was speaking as a special guest of honor at the 2024 international day for universal access to information .

The minister added that credible information dissemination, devoid of propaganda, will also reduce apathy and engender trust among the citizens, thereby reopening constructive conversation between the government and the people.

The theme : “Mainstreaming access to information and participation in the public sector,” the two-day global conference formed part of the commemoration of the International Day for Universal Access to Information was attended by over 2000 participants from across the country, and globally .
“As we return to our various institutions and continue with our work, let us carry with us the spirit of collaboration and purpose that has defined this year’s IDUAI,” she said.

The minister called on Ghanaians to remain steadfast in efforts to promote transparency, accountability and inclusive governance through access to information.

Also in his address The Assistant Director-General in charge of Communication and Information at UNESCO, Tawfik Jelassi, stated that access to information was the cornerstone of democracy, and the bridge between governments and the governed.
