Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, Dr Bryan Acheampong, says internal profiling by his campaign shows he is far ahead in the race for the party’s presidential slot, despite public opinion polls suggesting otherwise.
Speaking on PM Express on Tuesday, the former Abetifi MP said his team has profiled almost all eligible delegates ahead of the January 31, 2026, NPP presidential primary.
“We are doing military precision profiling, and we’ve profiled 190,000 delegates out of the 209,000,” he said.
When asked what that exercise showed, he was emphatic. “We are miles ahead,” he said. He repeated the claim. “We have profiled 190,000 delegates, and I’m way, way, way, way ahead.”
Pressed to explain what that meant in numbers, he said, “I think I’m close to 50% and the second person is around about half of what I am profiling.”
The assertion sharply contrasts with findings by Global InfoAnalytics, which in October placed him at 5 per cent, behind Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Kennedy Agyapong.
Dr Acheampong openly questioned the credibility and motive behind that poll. “First of all, what is Global InfoAnalytics’ interest in this poll?” he asked.
When it was put to him that Global InfoAnalytics is a polling agency, he pushed further. “Who pays them?” he asked. “I know what I know, but I’m saying…”
As the exchange continued, he raised concerns about the polls’ consistency and methodology. “Somebody must have an interest such that you do a nationwide poll and you give me 5%,” he said. “No, come on.”
The former Agric Minister criticised the sample size used by the pollsters. “There are 209,000 delegates,” he said. “He says that he’s profiled 3,000.”
He broke it down further. “It means he pulled 12 people out of 700 and then passes a judgment that of the 700, I will get 5%.”
Dr Acheampong also pointed to what he described as shifting trends in the same pollster’s reports.
He said, “In May, Dr Bawumia was polling 77% according to the same organisation.” He continued, “June, 77%, July, 70, August 55, September 52, October 47, November 42.”
He argued that the trend suggested a steady decline. He added, “By December, let’s say it comes to 35. In January, it comes to about 25.”
He said what stood out to him most was the size of the undecided vote. “From his own report, not to critique the report, he says that the undecided is huge, 30%,” he said. He questioned how that was possible.
“Two candidates are in the race. The delegates have not changed. They voted for either Kennedy or Bawumia. All of a sudden, they are undecided.”
Dr Acheampong claimed the situation was being influenced by fear. “So there’s a lot of intimidation going on,” he said.
“So people don’t want to tell you that you vote for Brian, because others are intimidating them.”
When asked to name those involved, he declined. “Let’s keep it there,” he said.
He remained confident about the outcome of the contest. “The elections of January 31, 2026, will not change the results,” he said. “I’ll win. Nothing will change it.”
He said his comments were meant to prepare the public. “I’m saying that so that you are not surprised when I win,” he said. He returned to his internal data.
“I’ve been in contact with 200,000 of the 209,000 people we profiled, 190,000 people.” He concluded, “Nothing will change.”
The NPP presidential primary is scheduled for January 31, 2026, and is expected to determine the party’s flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.
