I’m ready to be the main man at Dreams FC - Winfred Dormon

Winfred Dormon has been with Dreams FC since 2013, alternating between the club and roles elsewhere.

He guided Dreams FC from the Division Two League to Ghana’s second tier in the 2015/16 season and was part of CK Akonnor’s technical team that secured promotion to the Ghana Premier League the following season.

Since then, he has served as assistant coach under Vladislav Virić, Ignatius Osei-Fosu, and Karim Zito.

In July 2025, Dreams FC confirmed Dormon as head coach ahead of the new season, 12 years after he first joined the club.

“I think that the sacrifices I have endured have prepared me for this moment, and I’m ready for this challenge,” Dormon told Joy Sports.

With Karim Zito in charge, Dreams FC made history by reaching the semifinals of the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup, with Dormon as his assistant.

Towards the end of the 2024/25 season, he stepped in on an interim basis when his long-time boss left for Asante Kotoko.

“Of course, he [Karim Zito] has his style, and I also have my style. I mean, coaches differ, philosophers differ, but his ability to develop young players is what this club stands for, and I’m committed to that.

“We differ in many ways, yet there are also certain principles that he shared with me, which I’m committed to [carrying along]. I want to have a different style; I want to have my own style as coach Winfred Dormon.”

Dormon, who previously served as assistant coach of Ghana’s U17 national team, is looking beyond Dreams FC.

“I have bigger ambitions, and I want to use Dreams FC as a stepping stone to greater heights. I want to use Dreams FC as a stepping stone to the international level,” he declared.

Asked further on targeted destinations, Dormon added, “Well, one day it could be the national team of any other country you can imagine.”

After more than a decade with the club, Winfred Dormon now leads Dreams FC as head coach, determined to improve on last season’s sixth-place finish.

“Let’s keep working, let’s make sure that I manage this club and manage it to compete in the Ghana Premier League, and at the end of this season, I want to see Dreams FC in a very, very respectable position.

“We are committed to making sure we improve on last season’s performance.”

After more than ten years mostly working as an assistant, Winfred Dormon is set to be the main man at Dreams FC for the first time in the upcoming season.
