Recently appointed Technical Director of the Black Stars, Winfried Schäfer, has expressed confidence in the team’s future performance.

Schäfer took up the role after Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be held in Morocco. The Black Stars finished bottom of Group F with just three points.

In an interview with German publication Sächsische Zeitung, Schäfer shared his optimism about the team’s direction.

“The association president asked me to support Otto Addo (former Bundesliga professional and current Ghana national coach) and, as Director of Football in Ghana, to create a spirit of optimism and modernize football. I’m not a guru, but my experience in Cameroon has given me quite good insight. ,” he said.

“We quickly re-established unity within the team, won our first two games, and are now on a good path to qualification. The next step is implementing projects in Ghana. That won’t be easy, and I’m still seeking international partners to support us. But I’m optimistic,” he added.

The Black Stars will regroup later this month to participate in a four-nation tournament in the United Kingdom.
