Paramount Chief of Jama Traditional Area, Jama Kooro, Nnaa Professor Lanjagor Karley II.

The Paramount Chief of Jama Traditional Area in the Bole District of the Savannah Region, Jama Kooro, Nnaa Professor Lanjagor Karley II, has said his reign would be characterised by activities that would ensure the youth in Jama have access to quality education to build the right human resource and ensure gender balance for and eventually adequate human resources with a balance of gender-based empowerment.

The Chief, who is known in private life as Professor Noah Kofi Karley, a Cambridge University Scholar in an interview with Myjoyonline, said no country or community can develop with limited or poor human resource, and without efforts to ensure gender-balance.

“Yes, we live in a global environment and development is all about partnership. So, once I’ve identified the need, we are looking at education and job opportunities and the Bui Power Authority is a stakeholder.”

“So, I’m trying to have a conversation with them so that they will help in terms of providing scholarships to some of our people as a significant proportion of land being used for farming have now been used by Bui Power Authority (BPA), over a decade ago for Hydro Electricity Power generation, of which we are yet to be compensated”, Jama Kooro Nnaa Lanjagor Karley II indicated.

According to him, some of the compensation could come in the form of other support and not just money to the stool.

“The conversation should be that some of the compensation can come in kind, scholarships provided, especially to the girl-child, and not the money to the stool as such “, Prof. Noah Karley explained.

Touching on gender and environmental protection, the Chief said he would collaborate with the Tarkwa School of Mines and Technology to promote women’s impact on development in his traditional area.

“Recently, I received some researchers from the Tarkwa School of Mines and Technology who paid a visit to the Stool to see if they could initiate a pilot project on women farmers to provide them with some facilities to be able to determine the soil fertility as well as water level through digitization.”

“So, this is something I’ll also use to promote women or gender positivity and awareness. Needless to say, women are very important in the area of development and life in general “, he insisted.

“As an environmentally sensitive person, I’m very passionate about the environment. We have seen the spillage around Akosombo, and later in Buipe and we want to make sure that it doesn’t come and affect the Bui Power Authority area as well. So, we are trying to ensure that small-scale miners with concessions are doing the mining in the right direction as we don’t want miners to destroy the environment and we are all doing these together as stakeholders”Jama Kooro noted.

He also extended an invitation to all and sundry who are passionate about development in his traditional area, to come on board to accelerate development in Jama.
