I’ll contest Akwatia seat again if party allows – NPP candidate

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate in the Akwatia by-election, Solomon Kwame Asumadu, says he plans to further his education while keeping the door open for a possible return to politics.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, he revealed that he has congratulated the winner of the poll, Bernard Bediako of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and would consider contesting again if given the nod by his party and family.

“I can’t tell what the future holds, but if we get to that point and the party and my family want me to contest again, then I will. However, I will be furthering my education for now,” he said.

The by-election, held on September 2, 2025, followed the death of the incumbent NPP MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi, in July.

Bernard Bediako of the NDC won the race with 18,199 votes (54.3%), defeating Solomon Asumadu of the NPP, who secured 15,235 votes. Owusu Patrick of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) finished third with 82 votes.
