A deployment of 111 personnel of the IGP’s Special Operations Team has commenced operations within the Kumasi metropolis and surrounding areas as part of efforts to combat rising criminal activities.
The team, led by DSP Bawah Abdul Jalil and ASP Samuel Mustapha Abenzuo, paid a courtesy call on the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei–Akoto, together with his second-in-command and the Regional Operations Commander.
The visit was to formally announce the team’s presence in the region and to strengthen coordination with the Regional Command.

During the visit, the Regional Commander and his command structure engaged the Special Operations Team in a parade briefing, where operational expectations and the security situation in the region were discussed.
The Regional Commander expressed appreciation for the presence of the Special Operations Team, noting that the team deployment was timely in view of the increasing rate of criminal activities across various districts in the region.
He emphasized the need for the team to exhibit professionalism, diligence, and commitment in the execution of their mandate.
He further assured the team of his full support, including the provision of relevant intelligence on crime-prone areas to ensure proactive policing and effective crime prevention. The Commander also directed all Divisional and District Commanders to extend maximum cooperation to the team and to share timely information on security developments within their jurisdictions.
In response, the Team Commander, DSP Mr. Bawah Abdul Jalil, expressed gratitude to the Regional Command for the support and cooperation extended to the team. He reaffirmed the team’s readiness to work collaboratively with all units to enhance security and restore public confidence.
The engagement between the Special Operations Team and the Ashanti Regional Command has established a strong framework for cooperation and intelligence sharing. This collaboration is expected to significantly enhance operational effectiveness in addressing the security challenges within the region.
With sustained patrols, strategic deployment, and coordinated efforts among all police units, the team says it is well-positioned to make a meaningful impact in reducing crime and maintaining law and order in Kumasi and its surrounding districts.
