The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Yehonu, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to provide a clear roadmap for the collation of results in the disputed 2024 parliamentary elections in the Ablekuma North constituency in the Greater Accra region.

Speaking at a meeting with the National Election Security Task Force, the IGP said the request aims to improve coordination between security agencies and electoral officials, while also preventing confusion or conflict during the crucial collation phase.

“I would urge the EC to provide the National Election Security Task Force with a roadmap with respect to date and place for the finalisation of the collation. History often reflects omissions tested by pivotal moments. This is such a moment. The way we handle the situation in Ablekuma North will resonate across the country,” he said.

He stressed that the collation process must inspire public trust. “Let us secure not just ballot boxes, but also belief in the system. Let us protect not just physical lives, but the spirit of democracy.

Ablekuma North has emerged as a highly competitive constituency, and concerns have previously been raised over delays and disagreements during collation.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission is optimistic that the upcoming process will end the controversies surrounding the collation. Deputy Chairman in charge of operations, Samuel Tettey, spoke for the EC.
