The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted 30 police officers to higher ranks in recognition of their exceptional conduct during security operations in the Ashanti Region over the Christmas period.
The promotions follow successful interventions that led to the interception of 2,600 rounds of AK-47 ammunition at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier and the dismantling of an armed robbery syndicate along the Antoakrom–Manso Nkwanta stretch.
The gesture, according to the Police Administration, is in acknowledgement of the officers’ professionalism, vigilance and dedication to duty in protecting lives and property.
Among those promoted for their role in the Kantanso–Asankare operation are Chief Inspector Tibim Acheampong Solomon, Inspector Sarfo Adu Daniel, and several non-commissioned officers, including General Corporal Saeed Frimpong and General Constables Sremsei Simon, Kissi Dorcas Serwaah, Arthur Emmanuel Nkrumah, Dennis Danquah, Philip Lawer Nyarko, Owusu Kenneth and Christian Buaben Kwadzo Addo.
During the operation, officers carried out a meticulous search of a commercial bus and discovered two hidden containers loaded with 2,600 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.
Further searches uncovered a bag concealed beneath the driver’s seat, which contained two bulletproof plates, a crushed black helmet and a pair of long boots, raising serious security concerns.
In addition to the Kantanso–Asankare team, 20 officers from the Intelligence Units of the Ashanti and Ashanti South Regional Police Commands were also promoted for intelligence-led operations conducted at Manso Nkwanta, Antoakrom and adjoining communities.
These operations resulted in the recovery of firearms and ammunition, the disruption of armed robbery activities and the prevention of planned attacks on commuters.
Commending the officers, the IGP and members of the Police Management Board (POMAB) praised their courage, alertness and commitment, noting that their actions prevented dangerous weapons from falling into the hands of criminals.
Mr Yohuno urged all personnel to continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, assuring them that the Police Administration remains committed to recognising and rewarding hard work and exemplary service.
