The International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations Africa and Middle East (IFATCA AFM) Region, and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Africa, have conferred a distinguished honour on the Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Rev. The award was received on his behalf by a designated representative.

The citation accompanying the honour stated:

“In recognition of your exemplary leadership, distinguished service and unwavering commitment to strengthening aviation safety and security, advancing regulatory excellence, enhancing air navigation services and infrastructure, and promoting operational excellence in Ghana’s aviation sector and the wider African aviation community.”

Subsequently, upon receiving the award at the GCAA headquarters, which was presented to him by the president of the local chapter of IFATCA, Rev. Wilfred Arthur expressed his humility and gratitude, noting that the recognition would motivate him to work even harder to enhance the image of the Authority and promote Ghana’s standing within the global aviation ecosystem.

Rev. Arthur dedicated the award to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for the honour bestowed upon him through his appointment as Chief Executive of the Authority, for which he said he remains deeply grateful.

He also dedicated the award to the Board, Management, and Staff of the GCAA for their immense support since his appointment a year ago.

The recognition underscores Rev. Arthur’s leadership in aligning Ghana’s aviation sector with international best practices, particularly in safety oversight, air navigation service delivery, and infrastructure modernisation.

His tenure has contributed to strengthening institutional capacity and fostering regional collaboration within Africa’s aviation ecosystem.

The International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations serves as the global voice of air traffic controllers, advancing aviation safety and supporting the sustainable evolution of the industry through professional development, advocacy, and international collaboration. With member associations in over 130 countries, IFATCA plays a critical role in shaping global air traffic management standards.

Similarly, International Transport Workers’ Federation Africa continues to champion the rights and welfare of transport workers, promoting coordinated action at national, sub-regional, and continental levels to secure equitable and sustainable outcomes for its members across the transport sector.
