Former Finance Minister and NDC flagbearer hopeful, Dr Kwabena Duffour, says he will institute a pension scheme for cadres, Council of Elders and founding members of the party if he is elected.
He says this will compensate for their dedication, toil and sacrifices for the party.
Speaking during his tour of the Central Region, he said “Cadres, founding members, Council of Elders, we will put in place a pension scheme for all of you.
“Because if you had worked for government, you would have been benefitting from pensions. You sacrificed your lives for the party and you do not have to die in misery”.
The former Governor of the Bank of Ghana said no matter the state of the economy, he will be able to revive it in less than two years if he is elected President.
“In 2009 when Professor Mills was elected, the economy was in a bad state but he made it better in less than a year. No matter the condition of the economy, in less than two years we will revive it. We have done it before,” he said.
A former National Organizer and Campaign Manager of the Duffour Campaign, Yaw Boateng Gyan described Dr Kwabena Duffour as selfless and dedicated.
He also urged the party members to vote for Dr Duffour as flagbearer of NDC.
“Our father here is not a stranger in the NDC. He is part of the founding members of the party. He was there with us in 1983. His very close friend was the founder JJ Rawlings. He is part of the top three financiers of the party helping us to run the NDC”.
Mr Gyan added that after the victory of Professor John Evans Atta Mills in the 2008 elections when Dr. Kwabena Duffour was appointed Finance Minister, he did not want the perks that come with a ministerial position.
He did not want a salary, government vehicle or bungalow.
Yaw Boateng Gyan stated, “Throughout the four years, he did not take any salary, he did not stay in a government bungalow, he did not use any government vehicle.
“He did not also take ex gratia. He made Ghana and the NDC proud with thirty-two months of single-digit inflation.
“Ghana became one of the fastest growing economies. He was also selected as part of the four best Finance Ministers in the world. So NDC in these times of great economic difficulties, he is the right man.”
