I was NPP member but withdrew in 2003 because of Kufuor - Martin Kpebu

Popular lawyer Martin Kpebu has revealed that he was once a member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) but withdrew in 2003 due to disagreements over the then government’s handling of corruption.

Speaking on JoyPrime TV, he said he was an active NPP member during his university days. However, he decided to leave the party while former President John Agyekum Kufuor was in office, citing the administration’s failure to tackle corruption as his reason for departing – a position he has maintained to date.

“I used to be part of the NPP, that was when I was in school, those days, in the 1990s, at the University of Ghana, but by 2003, I had stopped, the moment Kufuor (former president) came in, after year one, year two, it was clear that Kufuor was taking care of his interest first before the nation and I said no I dont need to be part (of the NPP again)”

He added, “I saw it very early, I saw it that I can’t support this type of government, so the second time, I didn’t vote for Kufour.”

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor served as the president of Ghana from 2001 to January 7, 2009.
