The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem South Constituency, Hon. Lawrencia Dziwornu, has reiterated her commitment to youth and community development through sports and infrastructure during a football tournament held over the weekend.
Speaking at a Soccer Tornament event, Hon. Dziwornu highlighted the abundance of untapped sporting talent in the constituency, which she discovered during her campaign. She emphasized her resolve to use football as a tool to engage and empower the youth.
“I made it a point that occasionally, we will organise football competitions to unearth and support these talents,” she stated. “I have already supported them with football jerseys and balls, and I will continue to provide these sports accoutrements regularly.”
The MP also revealed plans to rehabilitate and develop football parks across the constituency.
“I will liaise with the Minister for Youth and Sports to secure standard sports facilities for our communities,” she added, promising to ensure that other towns within the constituency benefit from these initiatives.
In addition to her focus on sports, Hon. Dziwornu addressed key developmental issues. She promised to construct a major market to support local traders and boost economic activity. She also assured residents that some of the deplorable roads in the area will soon be fixed.
“Good roads will open up the area for business and bring relief to residents,” she said, noting that she has already engaged the Roads Minister, who assured her that major roads in Akuapem South will be tackled.
Reflecting on her first seven months in office, Hon. Dziwornu acknowledged the challenges but remained optimistic. “It’s been quite challenging, but I have picked up a few things and gained a better understanding of how Parliament works,” she said.
She concluded by encouraging the youth to remain committed to sports and education, adding that other constituencies are making strides in community development, and Akuapem South must do the same.
Her message resonated with many constituents, who expressed hope that her promises would lead to meaningful and lasting change in the area.
