The Hohoe Divisional Police Command is investigating a recent fire that gutted De-Villa, a popular drinking spot and chop bar in the Hohoe township.

The incident occurred on Thursday, March 20,. The business is owned by the Hohoe constituency NDC communications officer, Rev. Stephen Tetteh Worwui.

Rev. Tetteh Worwui, speaking to Myjoyonline.com, explained that the fire appeared to have started outside the main metal container, which serves as both his office and a storage space for business items.

He described the damage as “severe,” with the fire spreading to the inner area of the container, destroying his display shelves, paper documents, a computer, and other equipment used for playing music to entertain customers.

He noted that anything wooden inside the container had been completely reduced to ashes, and he has been left to count his losses.

According to Rev. Tetteh Worwui, the fire was eventually put out by some good Samaritans, preventing further destruction. He has since shut down the business to seek justice.

The communications officer suspects that thugs affiliated with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency may have been behind the incident.

He has stated this suspicion in the police report filed at the Divisional Police Head Office in Hohoe the day after the fire.

Rev. Tetteh Worwui claims that some NPP youth had previously threatened him, saying they would “bring me down in this town,” following a recent altercation between a court bailiff and supporters of the former Member of Parliament for the area, John Peter Amewu.

The scuffle occurred when a court bailiff, accompanied by a security officer, attempted to serve legal documents at Mr. Amewu’s residence. This was in relation to a court order requiring the former MP to appear before the court.

Myjoyonline.com understands that during this process, some of Mr. Amewu’s supporters allegedly opposed the bailiff’s actions, which led to a physical confrontation. The situation escalated, and live bullets were fired when the situation degenerated into a brawl between NDC supporters and the security officer on one hand, and NPP supporters who resisted the service of the court process.

Rev. Tetteh Worwui confirmed to Myjoyonline.com that he was part of the scuffle at Mr. Amewu’s residence and believes the threats he received from the NPP youth may be connected to the fire that destroyed his business.

The Volta Regional Communications Officer for the NDC, Kafui Agbleze, has called for a swift investigation into the matter and the arrest of those responsible.

“We demand nothing but a quick investigation into the issue, and we want justice to be served,” he said.
