The Member of Parliament for Ho West, Emmanuel Bedzrah has announced securing 100 international educational scholarships for his constituents.
He said that the scholarship with, being issued by his Russian partners aimed to produce a science and technologically inclined human resource to help develop his constituency.
Mr. Bedzrah said the initiative aims to harness the potential of the Ho West Basic Schools Annual Quiz Competition, (BaSAQ-C) which was instituted about 10 years ago, and to help improve academic excellence at the basic level.
The majority of previous participants in the competition are studying various programmes in science, technology and engineering fields at the tertiary level.

“I traveled to Russia about a month ago and have been able to secure about a hundred scholarships for the Ho West District. Those who want to do a PhD, those who want to do a Master’s, those who even want to do a first degree”, he disclosed in an interview with the media on the sideline of the 10th edition of BaSAQ-C.
He added that a secretariat will be created at the Ho West District Assembly to coordinate the operations of the scholarship and ensure that the beneficiaries are indigenes of the district.
“The BaSAQ-C students and those who are interested, a special desk will be opened at the district assembly for us to take people who are interested in technology, in the sciences to come
back to Ho West. This is limited to only Ho West, I have 100 scholarships for those who want to study in Russia, in technology and the sciences”, he said.
He added that the GETfund has so far awarded 7,000 local tertiary scholarships across the board with a significant number awarded to international students.
He stressed his commitment to improving infrastructure across the about 85 educational institutions in the district, which comprises 12 second-cycle schools, 72 basic schools, and a tertiary school.
“Ho West is known for infrastructure development when it comes to education and one of the things that I will be remembered for is massive infrastructure development in Ho West”.
“For the Member of Parliament to be able to touch base with all these schools clearly shows that, education is my priority. Every aspect of education, either motivation, support for logistics, or infrastructure. I want to leave a legacy so that when I am no longer there, people can point out that, ‘Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah has brought education up in the Ho West District’”, he concluded.
