Ho High Court Dismisses Petition Challenging John Peter Amewu’s MP Election

The Ho High Court has dismissed a petition challenging John Peter Amewu’s election as Member of Parliament for Hohoe, citing lack of jurisdiction.

The petition, brought by residents of Santrofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL) who could not vote in the 2020 parliamentary elections due to regional boundary changes, sought to nullify Amewu’s election.

John Peter Amewu, who entered the case late, introduced new issues at the last hearing, which the NDC alleged was a tactic to delay proceedings.

In its ruling on Monday, July 29, 2024, the court stated that the petition essentially challenged the constitutionality of CI 128, the law under which the Electoral Commission conducted the 2020 parliamentary elections.

The decision ends the legal challenge against Amewu’s election, leaving the outcome intact.
