The Member of Parliament for Ho Central, Edem Kpotosu has advised 2025 basic school graduates against social vices, entreating hem to live moral lives.

He appealed to them to commit to helping their parents while they wait for the result of the just-ended 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination to progress their educational ladder.

He was speaking at an educational walk organized by his office to engage the graduates and counsel them on the right things to do as they transition from basic to second-cycle education.

He said that parents would only be triggered to provide for children who remain respectful and helpful during the period and hence the candidates must be guided as such.

“Life is about reciprocity. If you do something to somebody, the person is also going to reciprocate, so if you don’t help your parents, you don’t expect them to suffer and come and help you tomorrow.

“Although they gave birth to you, you have to make sure you help them so they also have time to do other things to raise funds to support you in the future”, he said.

He lamented the increasing trend of the use of illicit drugs among residents in Ho, warning the graduates to desist from such acts, which would jeopardize their future.

He promised that persons engaging in the use and sale of such drugs would be rooted out and made to face the law accordingly.

Mr. Kpotosu announced a rewarding package for the top 20 performing candidates in BECE in his constituency, as a way of supporting them to prepare for senior high school.

“Those who will get nine ones, the first ranked 20 will be provided with a chop box filled [with provisions], a trunk and a mattress. That one I stand by it”, he stressed.

He admonished the West African Examination Council to maintain the current timetable which schedules the last paper on Tuesday to curb the incidents of morality, which usually occurs out of excitement of completing basic school.

“I admire the day on which the exams ended and it is better for all of us. If it were to be Friday, the excitement would run through Saturday and Sunday but from Tuesday to Friday, at least the excitement would have gone down small, so the repercussions wouldn’t be that much”, he said.

Mr. Kpotosu is optimistic that the Ho Municipality would witness an increase in performance following a clinic organized for the candidates, to engage with key examiners who tutored them on how to answer questions correctly.

He called on the graduates to take advantage of his development program to learn a skill during the period of waiting for their results.
