The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has condemned a mass shooting incident that occurred at the Ho Central Mosque in the Volta Region on December 26, 2025.
According to him, the incident that resulted in the injuries of some 11 Muslims and the arrest of 14 suspects is an “affront to Islamic sanctity”.
This was contained in a press release issued on his behalf, signed by Dr Abubakar Mohammed Marzuq Azindoo, his Personal Assistant.
“His Eminence condemns the incident and describes it as an affront to Islamic sanctity, a threat to national security, a deviation from basic civility, and a tribute to outright impunity,” stated the release.
Sheikh Ali Muniru legitimate Volta Regional Chief Imam
He alluded to the fact that the shooting incident was related to the race for who occupies the office of the Volta Regional Chief Imam, between Sheikh Ali Muniru and Sheikh Alfa Anas.
The National Chief Imam stressed that Sheikh Muniru is the legitimate Volta Regional Chief Imam, adding that Sheikh Alfa Anas should deputise him.
The Islamic spiritual head indicated that several consultations and mediations were done before arriving at Sheikh Muniru as the legitimate person to be enskinned as the Volta Regional Chief Imam.
Sheikh Nuhu Sharubutu, therefore, found it unfortunate learning of the continuous impasse, which is leading to violence in the Muslim community, despite mediating and resolving the conflict.
Police impartiality
The National Chief Imam admonished the police to ensure all suspects in connection with Friday’s violent incident, which threatens the peaceful coexistence of believers of the Islamic faith in Ho, are brought to book.
He entreated the police to be impartial in their investigations, indicating that “indeed, selective justice is tantamount to injustice.”
Solidarity to serve Allah and humanity
His Eminence emphasised the need for both leaders to desist from engaging in violence and serve Allah and humanity in “solidarity and cordiality”.
He also urged their followers to let the norms of Islam reflect in their dealings by being law-abiding and peace-loving citizens.
“In conclusion, His Eminence prays for a speedy healing of the injured and reminds the
factions about the following words of Allah:
“The believers are brothers. So, make reconciliation between your brothers. And fear Allah, so that you may receive mercy. (Quran 49:10). May Allah reconcile the Ummah and bless our Homeland, Ghana. Ameen,” the statement concluded.
