Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo delivered his boss, Eric Opoku's speech and afterwards inspected food products from the PCG DSS farmers

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr. Eric Opoku, has in a speech delivered on his behalf at the 6th Development and Social Services of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG), appealed to the church to team up with the government to combat the galamsey menace.

In the speech read by his Deputy, Mr. John Dumelo, the Minister observed that illegal mining has become a national concern and therefore emphasised the need for collective action to address the issue, citing the potential impact on food production and security.

“We appeal to the church to help us fight galamsey, which has become a national canker,” he said. “Galamsey is not far away from us, as some of the food items that come to the food market in Accra could be affected by deadly chemicals.”

The minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working with stakeholders to advance shared goals of economic and agricultural transformation. “We at the Ministry of Food and Agriculture are here to give all the support you need,” he assured.

“Let us continue to build this partnership so that we feed not only the soul but also the body in a healthy manner, to the prosperity of our people and the glory of God.”
