The Sissala Council of Chiefs has expressed profound grief over the fatal military helicopter crash that claimed eight Ghanaian lives, including senior government officials and members of the Ghana Armed Forces.
In a statement signed by Kuoro Abu Diaka Sukabe Ninia V, Paramount Chief of Zini and Interim PRO/Secretary of the Council, the traditional leaders described the tragedy as a “devastating national loss.”
“Their patriotism, dedication to duty and sacrifice, resulting in their death on the line of duty, should and will continue to inspire generations,” the statement noted.
The council extended its condolences to the Presidency, the people of Ghana, and the bereaved families, honouring the deceased as “eight irreplaceable sons of Ghana” whose service and legacy would be remembered both by the nation and before the Almighty.
Calling for nationwide solidarity, the chiefs urged Ghanaians to stand with the government and affected families, offering “the needed support and prayers deserving of the situation.”
“We pray the Good Lord to comfort the bereaved families and grant the souls of our sons eternal peace and rest. May their souls rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
At a press conference on Thursday, August 14, the government announced detailed plans for the state funeral of the victims, which will be held on Friday, August 15.
Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Operations, Stan Dogbey, said the ceremony will be primarily a military service led by the Ghana Armed Forces(GAF) and divided into three main parts.
