Health Ministry to investigate Fourth Estate report on Ridge Hospital

The Ministry of Health has announced plans to investigate issues raised in an investigative report by The Fourth Estate concerning the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, popularly known as Ridge Hospital.

In a press release, the Ministry said it had taken note of the report, which has been widely circulated on social media and has generated public concern.

“The Ministry of Health has taken note of an investigative report published by The Fourth Estate media house on the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Ridge,” the statement said.

The Ministry expressed sympathy for patients and relatives who may have experienced poor treatment at health facilities.

“The Ministry sympathises with patients and relatives who may have been subjected to any form of unprofessional conduct in any health facility across the country,” it stated.

It reaffirmed the government’s commitment to easing the burden on patients seeking medical care. “Government remains committed to reducing the stress and financial burden patients face in accessing healthcare,” the release said.

However, the Ministry said it was alarmed by some of the findings in the report and believes the matter requires careful scrutiny.

“We are deeply concerned and surprised by some of the revelations contained in the report. The Ministry considers the issues raised as serious and deserving of thorough examination,” the statement noted.

As a result, the Ministry said it is taking steps to formally investigate the allegations.

“Accordingly, the Ministry of Health is in the process of constituting an investigative committee to look into the matter,” the release announced.

The committee, according to the Ministry, will be given a clear timeline to complete its work. “The committee is expected to submit its report within fourteen (14) working days,” it said.

The Ministry also called on all parties involved to cooperate fully with the investigation to help establish the facts and strengthen healthcare delivery.

“The Ministry expects the full cooperation of all relevant stakeholders, including The Fourth Estate, to help unravel the facts and provide additional details necessary to ensure accountability and improve service delivery within our health system,” the statement added.
