Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, says he is satisfied with the quality of work done by contractors on the Sekyere Afram Plains District Hospital at Kumawu which is near completion.

It follows the installation of some medical equipment, painting of structures, among other works on the 120-bed capacity facility in the Ashanti Region.

Project contractors, NMS Infrastructure Limited, have had to double efforts to complete and hand over the hospital in August this year.

During a visit to the project site last week, Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, said the quality of work done at the facility can be compared to standards in the United Kingdom.

His comments come as contractors install medical equipment at the male and female wards as they also fix doors and work on landscaping.

A 36-housing unit for nurses and doctors has already been completed.

Senior Site Manager, David Moore, told JoyNews all is set for the completion of the project in the middle of July.

“Medical equipment is mainly in the country. We are working long hours and 7-days a week. So we are looking to get the A-Block and the wards ready by June. Depending on the availability of materials, it could slip into the middle of July but our aim is not to go past July.”

At the Adansi North District Hospital at Fomena, construction work is completed.

A test run of equipment at the hospital will begin next month by NMS Infrastructure.

According to Mr. Moore, this will be followed by training of staff to precede the official handing over.

“It’s all finished. We are doing testing. We have invited the MOH to do their testing-commission and also for them to try whatever machine they want. We are ready when they are. I believe it’s been scheduled by them, so hopefully by the middle of next month we will start training” he noted.

Healthcare delivery is expected to improve in the Ashanti Region when the Fomena and Kumawu District hospitals, as well as the 250-bed capacity Ashanti Regional Hospital at Sawua and the 500-bed Military Hospital at Afari are operationalized.
