As part of the government’s ongoing efforts to retool health facilities across the country, the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has presented anaesthetic machines to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to strengthen service delivery and improve patient care.
Under the Ministry’s plan to distribute 50 anaesthesia machines nationwide, UGMC received three while Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital received eight. The initiative forms part of government’s broader commitment to equip health institutions with modern medical tools needed to deliver quality healthcare.
Speaking during the presentation ceremonies, the Minister stressed that hospitals can only perform effectively when properly resourced.
“It is part of our government’s agenda to retool and strengthen health facilities to ensure that every Ghanaian has access to quality healthcare,” he stated.
He further directed that the newly donated machines be put to immediate use and urged healthcare professionals to treat patients with respect and compassion. He also called on health facilities to create more avenues for patient feedback to improve service delivery.
The Minister announced plans to post additional medical doctors to district health facilities across the country to ensure equitable access to healthcare.
He appealed to newly posted doctors to accept assignments in rural communities where their services are most needed.
The Chief Executive Officers of both UGMC and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital expressed their gratitude to the Minister and the Ministry of Health for the timely intervention, noting that the anaesthetic machines will significantly enhance their surgical and anaesthetic services.
