The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the La General Hospital project, describing it as crucial to easing pressure on Ridge Hospital and other health facilities in Accra.
During an inspection tour of the project site at La, the Minister was briefed by the contractors on progress made so far and the challenges encountered.
He assured them that the government has allocated GH₵130 million for the project and that the Ministry of Finance is fast-tracking payment processes to prevent any delay.
“This project is very dear to our hearts. We have made the necessary allocations, and I have personally followed up with the Ministry of Finance to ensure that payments are processed quickly. Please remain on site and continue your work, the government will do its part,” Mr Akandoh said.
He urged the contractors to promptly report any challenges so they could be addressed, adding that the Ministry will continue to monitor progress closely to ensure the hospital’s timely completion.
The Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, who accompanied the Minister, expressed gratitude to the government for its continued support and reassured residents that the project remains a top priority.
“We want to assure the people of La Dadekotopon that this hospital will be completed. Government has not abandoned it; we are committed to seeing it through,” she said.
The 170-bed La General Hospital redevelopment project, once completed, will provide modern healthcare services for residents of La and surrounding areas, helping to decongest other major hospitals in the capital.
