The Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District National Health Insurance (NHIS) Manager, Mr. Mahama Sakara who caught on tape begging for s3x from a nurse at Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound has been asked to step aside.

Mr. Mahama Sakara is reported to have fingered the nurse at Soma CHPS Compound in the Sawla-Tuba-Kalba District, Savannah Region.

In the petition dated July 12, 2020 and addressed to the Chief Executive Office of the NHIA, Doreen alleged that Mr. Sakara visited her workplace on July 8, 2020 around 9am “with the mission of monitoring.”

She said upon reaching the facility, Mr Sakara Mahama started s3xual demands which she did not give in to making him aware that she has been engaged to another man.

Doreen said Mr. Sakara upon hearing that forced her and got his hand inside her v@gina but could not get the opportunity to sleep with her.

PRESS RELEASE ALLEGATION OF SEXUAL ASSAULT BY NHIA STAFF

Executive Management of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has received a petition from a health worker of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) accusing the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District National Health Insurance (NHIS) Manager, Mr. Mahama Sakara of an attempted sexual assault.

In her petition, the Nurse in the Savannah Region alleged that Mr. Sakara visited her duty post on July, 8, 2020 at about 9:00am under the guise of “Monitoring” and s3xually assaulted her. We wish to assure the general public and all stakeholders that the Authority has already taken action with regards to the petition.

The District Manager has been issued a query and his response has been received. There is also an on-going investigation by the Police service and further actions will be taken as the facts of the case unfold. In the meantime the District Manager has been asked to step aside.

The NHIA strongly condemns all incidents of s3xual harassment, sexual assault and gender-based violence in our society.

The code of ethics enshrined in our conditions of service abhors such behaviour. The organisation will continue to champion the cause of individuals’ rights and liberties to live and work without interference especially women.
