Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu has emerged as the frontrunner in the race to lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) into the 2028 general elections, according to the latest poll conducted by Global Info Analysis.

The September survey places Haruna Iddrisu ahead of other top contenders, showing he enjoys a significant lead among NDC supporters and in key swing regions.

In the initial multi-candidate race, Haruna Iddrisu secured 30%, followed by NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia with 24%, and Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson with 18%.

Three-Horse Race Scenario Favours Haruna Iddrisu

The survey further tested various three-way scenarios to determine potential outcomes if some candidates were not in the race.

When Dr Ato Forson is excluded, Haruna Iddrisu’s lead grows substantially:

Haruna Iddrisu – 45%

Asiedu Nketia – 37%

Julius Debrah – 18%

Among NDC voters only, Haruna leads with 47%, followed by Asiedu Nketia at 39%, and Julius Debrah at 14%.

In swing regions, Haruna maintains a stronger edge with 48%, compared to Asiedu Nketia’s 37% and Julius Debrah’s 15%.

However, when Haruna Iddrisu is excluded, the race becomes extremely competitive between Asiedu Nketia and Dr Ato Forson:

Asiedu Nketia – 40%

Ato Forson – 38%

Julius Debrah – 22%

In this scenario, NDC voters are split almost evenly, with Asiedu Nketia at 42% and Ato Forson at 41%, while Julius Debrah remains at 17%.

Interestingly, in swing regions, Dr Ato Forson takes the lead with 47%, compared to Asiedu Nketia’s 38% and Julius Debrah’s 15%.

Bawumia leads NPP presidential primaries with 47% – Global Info

According to the survey for the month of September, the former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has taken a commanding lead in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries, securing 47 per cent of delegate support.

The poll, however, also revealed a significant share of delegates remain undecided, raising questions about how the race may shift in the coming weeks.

While Dr Bawumia continues to enjoy the confidence of nearly half of the delegates surveyed, the findings suggest there is room for movement in the contest as aspirants intensify their campaigns.

Businessman and former Assin Central legislator Kennedy Agyapong emerged as the Vice President’s closest challenger, but the data indicates he has not been able to fully capitalise on Dr Bawumia’s dip in support.

Global Info Analytics stated that the figures highlight both the former Vice President’s dominance and the fluidity of the primaries as delegates weigh their options.
