GSTEP youth steering group inducts 20 new ambassadors for 2026 challenge

The Ghana Science and Tech Explorer Challenge Prize, GSTEP, has inducted 20 new Youth Ambassadors as preparations begin for the 2026 challenge.

The ceremony took place on Saturday, 15th November 2025, at the AKNAC Hotel in Accra. Five young leaders were selected from each of the four participating regions: Greater Accra, Eastern, Ashanti and Volta. The ambassadors will represent GSTEP throughout 2026, serving as the youthful voice of the programme.

Afua Oforiwaa Asiamah Adjei, Executive Director of the DreamOval Foundation which leads the implementation of GSTEP, expressed her confidence in the group.

“This new cohort of the GSTEP Youth Steering Group represents the bold, brilliant and diverse voices shaping the future of STEM in Ghana. Each ambassador selected has demonstrated curiosity, leadership and a genuine desire to create impact in their communities, qualities at the heart of GSTEP. As we expand into more regions and grow the programme’s national footprint, we are confident that these young leaders will help champion innovation, inspire their peers, and strengthen the culture of practical STEM learning across the country.”

The induction signalled the beginning of a year-long development programme aimed at building essential twenty-first century skills. In addition to their ambassadorial roles in operations, events, communications, capacity building, monitoring and evaluation, and community action, the youth will undergo extensive personal and professional development.

The event included team-bonding sessions and the first communications masterclass which set the tone for effective public engagement. The ambassadors also received an orientation on their responsibilities within the programme.

Over the next year, the Youth Steering Group will take part in five major masterclasses that cover communications and public speaking, collaboration and social impact, entrepreneurship and business planning, pitching and presentation, and event management. Five group mentorship sessions are also scheduled to support their long-term growth in areas such as leadership, career planning, emotional intelligence, financial literacy and digital skills, including an introduction to Artificial Intelligence.

The inclusion of the Volta Region for the first time was one of the key moments at the ceremony. Rejoice Selasie Tsyokplo, a member of the new cohort, shared her excitement.

“For the first time, the Volta Region is part of the GSTEP YSG program, and I am proud to be one of its representatives. From the teamwork to the masterclass, today’s induction has been an incredible experience. By the end of YSG 2026, I hope to strengthen my leadership, build my confidence, and broaden my knowledge in STEM.”

The GSTEP Youth Steering Group remains central to the programme’s vision of empowering young people to lead, innovate and promote practical STEM learning in their schools and communities. With their induction complete, the new ambassadors are set to support GSTEP Challenge activities across their regions.
