The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has announced its decision to suspend all intended industrial action following a meeting with key government stakeholders on Monday, July 15, 2025.
President of the Association, Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, revealed that the meeting held with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and the Ministry of Finance yielded commitments from government that were satisfactory to the association’s leadership.
She disclosed that the government had agreed to address the long-standing demand for fuel allowances.
According to her, the Ministry of Finance confirmed that provisions for the allowances would be factored into the upcoming mid-year budget review.
However, the government clarified that the allowances would be pegged to existing government-approved rates.
Touching on the 8% basic salary adjustment requested by the association, Madam Ofori-Ampofo said the Ministry acknowledged the urgency and importance of the matter but requested additional time for implementation.
On other unresolved matters contained in the GRNMA’s collective agreement, the association noted that government has also shown commitment to reviewing some of them during the same mid-year budget review process.
With these assurances, the GRNMA leadership says it is optimistic about continued dialogue and progress, and therefore has no intention of proceeding with any industrial action for now.
The association had earlier threatened industrial action over unmet demands relating to conditions of service, prompting swift intervention by government.
