GPL 2025/26: Samba’s late penalty ends Kotoko’s two-game winless run

Asante Kotoko shook off their recent dip in form with a hard-earned 2–1 win over Young Apostles on Wednesday, bringing an end to their two-game winless run in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

The Porcupine Warriors, playing their outstanding Week 6 fixture at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, had everything under control from the first blast of the whistle. Karim Zito’s side carved out several promising chances in the first half but couldn’t find the finishing touch.

However, the breakthrough finally came six minutes after the return from recess, when Hubert Gyau smashed in the opener to settle the nerves. But the joy was short-lived.

Young Apostles hit back almost immediately, with Richmond Opoku rising to nod home after a great passage of play.

From there, the game swung into an open, challenging contest. Kotoko threw bodies forward in search of a decisive moment, and it arrived deep into stoppage time.
