GPL 2025/26: Hearts beat Vision to end winless run

Accra Hearts of Oak defeated Vision F.C. by a goal to nil in the Ghana Premier League on Saturday.

Mawuli Wayo scored the decisive goal in the first half to end a run of three matches without a win.

The game’s first real chance fell to the visitors after just six minutes.

Abdul Naseru Sulemana profited from a mix of loose marking and poor communication between Hearts center back Ali Mohammed and left back Ransford Mensah.

However, his effort from the edge of the box flew harmlessly over the bar.

Hearts responded six minutes later, when Hamza Issah fired at goal from close range.

But his effort deflected off Frank Dongbale before being gathered by goalkeeper Godwin Ametefe.

Within a minute, the visitors threatened again with the game’s best attacking move yet.

Vision walked the ball from their half into the Hearts goal area without opposition, before Edmond Asante’s carpet shot narrowly missed the goal.

Hearts nearly took the lead after sixteen minutes when Osei-Asibey’s overhead kick from George Paaku’s corner was cleared on the goalline.

On the cusp of half time, the Phobians finally broke the deadlock when Mawuli Wayo headed home the opener.

Wayo reacted first to a loose ball from George Paaku’s corner to head home his third goal of the season.

The second half started with a Phobian onslaught, forcing Godwin Ametepe into the best save of the match, stretching to his elastic limit to tip George Paaku’s thunder bolt shot over the bar.

Thirteen minutes after the break, Sowah Adjetey danced his way through the Phobian defense but his shot from the edge of the area flashed wide.

From then on, Hearts assumed control of the match with the introduction of Kwesi Asmah, who took the place of Abdul Karim.

However, it was the visitors who created the game’s next chance when Sherif Mohammed’s knock down found Edmond Asante.

Before Asante could connect, Hearts keeper Agbasi rushed off his line to close him down, before saving his header.

Ten minutes from full-time, Hearts went close again when substitute Frank Duku’s lobbed effort missed the post by inches.

Hearts missed another chance in stoppage time when Martin Karikari found himself unmarked in the box but he fluffed his effort.

Moments later, Vision had their clearest chance yet but Sowah Adjetey’s effort was saved by Solomon Agbasi.

Agbasi’s save secured the points for Hearts, ending a run of three games without a win.
