GPL 2025/26: Dreams hold Hearts as Phobians record 8th draw

Accra Hearts of Oak recorded their 8th draw of the season, this time, against Dreams F.C. in the Ghana Premier League on Friday.

Friday’s draw was the first time in four matches that Hearts had failed to win at home since moving to the University of Ghana Stadium.

Before the match, the two teams were separated by eight points and the opening minutes showed which side was superior.

Three minutes into the match, Hearts of Oak’s Hussein Mohammed missed the game’s best chance when he pounced on a loose ball after Kofi Kumah had misjudged the flight of the ball.

But with the goal at his mercy, the Hearts of Oak midfielder hesitated, allowing Dreams F.C. goalkeeper Rahman Osman to save the ball.

Ten minutes later, Hamza Issah found space in the box after some neat work from the right but the striker could not keep his effort on target.

Before Friday’s game, Hearts of Oak had scored just 12 goals in 18 league matches and it was easy to see why.

Hamza Issah was the next culprit of the Phobians profligate finishing, when he skied Henry Boateng’s cut back from just three yards out.

On the 27th minute, Hussein Mohammed missed again, when Yaw Baafi Amankwaah’s pass found him in the box.

From then on, Dreams F.C. wrestled back control of the game but could not create any significant chance.

On the cusp of half time, Dreams F.C’s Ebenezer Adade stretched to his elastic limit but could still not connect to John Antwi’s pass.

The second half started with controversy after Seidu Suraj curled his effort past Benjamin Asare but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Suraj appeared to have mistimed his run and may have been marginally ahead of Hearts center back Gordon Cudjoe.

Minutes later, Benjamin Asare produced a fine save to deny John Antwi’s header from an Adade cross.

Dreams went close again after 55 minutes but Benjamin Asare produced another smart stop to deny John Antwi again.

Ten minutes later, Asare was called into action when he stretched to his elastic limit to deny Yaovi Guede.

From then on, Hearts of Oak grew into the game but could not create any meaningful chance.

On the 69th minute, Rahman Osman produced a finger tip save to prevent Gordon Cudjoe’s goal-bound header from Kwesi Asmah’s corner.

The final twenty minutes was an end to end affair but produced little excitement, ending in a draw.

Hearts have temporarily moved to 4th place with 32 points but are now five points behind league leaders Medeama S.C. despite playing one match more.

The Phobians have now drawn 8 of their 18 matches this season. Hearts have also failed to score in 10 of their 18 matches.

Dreams F.C. are 8th on the league table with 24 points.
