The Minister of Communications, Samuel Nartey George, has announced the government’s commitment to establishing a Cyber Security Fund to strengthen Ghana’s fight against cyber threats.
He made this known on Wednesday, October 1, at the opening of the 2025 National Cyber Security Awareness Month held at Burma Hall, Burma Camp. The event was themed “A Safe, Informed and Accountable Digital Space.”
The Minister explained that the Fund will serve as a sustainable financing mechanism to support key national cyber initiatives.
“Measures are being implemented to establish a sustainable financing mechanism for cybersecurity. We are committed to establishing a cyber security fund pursuant to sections 29 and 30 of the Cyber Act 2020 to ensure the availability of financial resources to support national cybersecurity initiatives, protect critical information infrastructure, and build capacity across all sectors,” he said.
He highlighted the human side of cyber risks, noting that ordinary mistakes often lead to the most serious breaches.
“According to a study by IBN, human error is the primary cause of 95% of cybersecurity breaches. That is, unintentional actions and inactions by employees and users can cause, spread or facilitate security breaches,” he added.
