President John Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to completing the Agenda 111 Hospital projects, stating that a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach will be explored to ensure their completion and operationalization.

Delivering his first State of the Nation Address in his second term on Thursday, February 27, he highlighted the urgent need to address Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure challenges.

He expressed concern that despite over $400 million being spent on the projects, not a single hospital is operational. “If this amount had been used appropriately, it would have completed and made operational about 20 of these hospitals,” he stated.

President Mahama criticised the inefficiencies surrounding the project’s implementation and emphasised the need for a new approach.

To resolve these challenges, he announced that his government is open to a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) to ensure the hospitals are completed and fully functional.

He stressed that healthcare delivery is a priority, and every effort will be made to ensure that the Agenda 111 initiative serves its intended purpose.

The Agenda 111 initiative, introduced under former President Akufo-Addo during the COVID-19 pandemic, aimed to build 111 district and regional hospitals, including psychiatric facilities, to improve healthcare access nationwide.

However, with no completed projects in operation, President Mahama pledged to take decisive action to ensure these critical facilities become a reality for Ghanaians.
