The Ministry of the Interior has announced a curfew on Nalerigu Township and its surrounding areas in the Northern Region.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the ministry said the decision was taken by the Minister for the Interior “on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument.”

The curfew, which will run from 5:00 pm to 6:00 am, takes effect on Thursday, December 18.

“The Minister for the Interior, on the advice of the National Security Council, has imposed a curfew on Nalerigu Township and its environs,” the statement said, adding that the measure is intended to help restore calm and ensure public safety.

The government has appealed to traditional authorities and residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies. “Government urges Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area,” the ministry added.
